ASUS ROG Gladius III Review: Lightning Fast Gaming Mouse with Replaceable Buttons

</ img>

ASUS ROG Gladius III is a successful and logical update to the line. The mouse has retained a very comfortable body shape under

right hand, and it became significantly easierpredecessors. And I got an excellent new optical sensor. Among other advantages of the mouse, it is worth noting the proprietary ROG switches with a resource of 70 million clicks, as well as the possibility of replacing them and the presence of replaceable Omron optical ones in the kit. The mouse is equipped with a very light and soft ROG Paracord cable that is not felt when used. But the braid feels very short-lived. It is separated from the cable itself, twists and goes in folds. In fact, this is the only complaint about the mouse. Otherwise there is nothing to complain about. Currently ASUS ROG Gladius III costs2600 UAH.

What does the ASUS ROG Gladius III look like?

</ img>

The shape of ASUS ROG Gladius III bears a resemblance topredecessor of Gladius II, although there are some differences too. I don’t have the previous model at hand, but, subjectively, the side panels and finger rests are a little more clearly recessed. Probably to improve the grip. Also, according to ASUS, the weight has decreased by 30%. The remaining differences are mainly decorative. ASUS ROG Gladius III is an asymmetrical mouse for the right hand. Made of black matte opaque plastic. It seems that this year ASUS has decided to abandon translucent design elements. The main buttons are separated from the body, and at their base there is a single glossy element: a triangular DPI switch button. Closer to the back of the mouse is an illuminated ROG logo.

</ img>

The side panels are also plastic. No rubberized inserts. On the left is a diagonal pattern with backlit letters Republic of Gamers and Gladius. Additional buttons are large and also made of matte plastic. On the right side there is only an insert with small diagonal notches, into which dust is immediately clogged.

</ img>

The scroll wheel has a familiar design, with a gouged finish and diagonal notches. Unlike most gaming mice, the entire wheel is illuminated, not just the side inserts.

</ img>

The place where the cable enters the mouse is in a small recess. There is a bend protection.

</ img>

On the bottom of the mouse there are four triangularTeflon feet around the perimeter. There is a small recess next to each one to make it easier to pick them out and replace them with new ones. In the middle is the PixArt PAW3370 optical sensor window with an additional triangular Teflon insert around it. Just below there is a button for switching profiles and two round rubber inserts. Below them are the screws that secure the top cover. They have to be unscrewed to replace the switches.

The cable in the usual ASUS ROG Gladius III is non-removable.In the Wireless version, it connects via Type-C. It has a length of 2 meters and an interesting new ROG Paracord braid. It has both pros and cons. Let's start with the pros: the cable is incredibly light and soft. During use, it is not felt at all. And now what I didn't like: the braid is completely separated from the cable itself. And accordingly, it twists and folds into folds. And the question of durability also arose: it's hard to say for a week of use, but the braid feels very flimsy.

</ img>

The mouse turned out to be not too large:126x67x45 mm, yet light: 79 g. For comparison, the previous Gladius II weighed 110 g. In appearance and workmanship, everything is in perfect order. Of the controversial little things, we can only highlight the textured zones, which very readily collect dust.

How convenient is it to use?

ASUS ROG Gladius III is a medium-sized mouse forright hand. It is quite suitable for any type of grip. For a small hand, it seems to me that the palm grip would be optimal. According to personal feelings, I would like a little more length so that the palm rests completely on the body. In the case of the ASUS ROG Gladius III, the area near the base of the palm remains suspended. Although during use this is practically not felt. The mouse is perfectly controlled due to its light weight and proper weight distribution.

</ img>

The scroll wheel has a soft move, whileThe cutoffs are informative and feel good. It operates almost silently at any speed. By default, the main buttons use proprietary ROG switches with 70 million clicks. They are comfortable to use. They have a moderately soft, yet informative and not too loud click. As an alternative, the kit includes Omron D2FP-FN optical switches. According to personal feelings, they are a little harsher, clearer and louder. Separately, it is worth mentioning the use of an additional finishing mechanism, which minimizes the distance between the button and the switch for faster operation. And thanks to this mechanism, the buttons themselves do not play or rattle.

</ img>

The procedure for replacing switches is quite simple. Not as much as the ASUS ROG Chakram with magnetic mounts, but also nothing complicated. We unscrew the two screws under the plugs from the bottom, remove the entire top cover along with the buttons and gain access to the switches.

What can ASUS ROG Gladius III do?

</ img>

ASUS ROG Gladius III uses opticalPixArt PAW3370 sensor with a maximum resolution of 19,000 DPI. It is capable of tracking movement at a maximum speed of 400 inches per second and acceleration up to 50g. ASUS engineers managed to “overclock” sensor 26,000 DPI. How exactly is not specified. In any case, even 19,000 DPI is more than enough. The mouse was used both in various games (primarily first-person shooters, where speed and accuracy are especially important) and for work purposes (Photoshop, etc.). The sensor showed itself exceptionally well. Excellent positioning, no stuttering, no jitter, and an impressive amount of resolution in case of using several 4K monitors at the same time.

</ img>

The mouse itself has a DPI switch button.(next to the scroll wheel) and a button for switching profiles (bottom). Everything else is configured in the proprietary Armory Crate application, which is already familiar from previous reviews of ASUS gaming peripherals. You can configure actions for each button, four levels of resolution, polling frequency, backlight (including AURA synchronization) and adjust the lift-off height. There are ready-made presets for ASUS gaming surfaces, as well as the ability to calibrate.
