ATACMS missiles for HIMARS and M270 MLRS in Ukraine: why is it too early to rejoice

The day before, a video appeared on the Internet showing a HIMARS allegedly carrying an ATACMS missile moving across Ukraine.

True, there is a nuance.

What is known

The video was actually recorded onterritory of our country, but there are many questions about the contents of the container. The main argument for the fact that there is only one ATACMS missile in the package is the presence of an unusual plug on the container.

Actually American developers are goodworked on the fact that from the side it was impossible to distinguish the GMLRS rocket pack from the ATACMS ballistic missile. For this reason, the multiple rocket launcher launch canister has an identical appearance regardless of the contents.

But, as you know, every rule has its ownexceptions. In our case, this is the launcher for the Precision Strike Missile. It has a different appearance, but such a projectile is currently only undergoing a series of tests in the United States.

Now back to ATACMS.In the photos above you can see photos of the ATACMS ballistic missile container. The first picture was taken in 2020 and the second in 2015. As you can see, the container is disguised as a package of six GMLRS rockets, but in fact there is one long-range missile inside.

Thus, the manufacturer did everything in order toto mask ATACMS. And it's hard to believe that someone will add additional elements by which you can find out the contents of the container. So it is too early to rejoice at the arrival of ballistic missiles for HIMARS in Ukraine.
