Austria is considering replacing its fleet of Eurofighter Typhoon fighters with American F-35 Lightning II aircraft.

The information came afterThe government has released a $15.5 billion defense budget through 2027. The Austrian Ministry of Defense will collect information to evaluate the potential purchase of fifth-generation fighters.
The budget provides for the allocation of funds formodernization of the Eurofighter Typhoon, which will allow 4+ generation fighters to serve until the beginning of the next decade. If Austria decides to purchase the F-35 Lightning II, the deal will be closed within the next ten years.
Note that the American fighters of the fifthgenerations are very popular in Europe. The list of European customers for the F-35 Lightning II includes Switzerland, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Poland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Finland and Greece.
