Authorities asked Russian Internet companies to degrade video quality

Authorities have asked Russian Internet companies to reduce video quality. This is due to the self-isolation regime,

due to which the load on the network increased sharply.

The Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications sent such a request to largeplatforms, including VKontakte, Yandex.Zen, Odnoklassniki, Rutube. The agency believes that Internet companies should disable automatic playback of video and audio, and also limit video quality to 720 pixels for mobile applications and 1080 pixels for browsers. Venues must do this by April 15.

The Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications says that during the self-isolation regime, the load on networks has increased. Including due to the fact that many online platforms have opened free access to content.

Nevertheless, experts interviewed by Kommersant believe that the load on online cinemas and networks is now comparable to what happens during the New Year holidays.
