Avada Kedavra - even top NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards struggle to handle Hogwarts Legacy in 4K UHD

February 10, 2023 is a happy day for fans of the Harry Potter universe. Computer owners and

also game consoles PlayStation 5 and XboxSeries S | X, the Action/RPG game Hogwarts Legacy has become available. But if you have a 4K UHD monitor, then to use all its capabilities to the maximum you will have to buy a GeForce RTX 4090.

What is known

TechPowerUp tested the game with differentNVIDIA and AMD graphics cards. We note right away that Hogwarts Legacy requires from 9 GB to 12 GB of video memory, depending on the resolution, and activating the best tracing technology increases VRAM consumption by another 2.5-5 GB.

Many modern video cards do not experienceproblems with the game if you select Full HD resolution in the settings. Even the GeForce RTX 3060 delivers over 52 FPS. In the case of the GeForce RTX 3050, the frame rate averages 36 FPS.

When upscaling to Quad HD, the frequencyframes for the two above-mentioned video cards drops to 34 FPS and 24 FPS, respectively. Issues also appear with the Radeon RX 5700 XT and Radeon RX 6600 XT. Starting with the GeForce RTX 3070, all graphics cards give out more than 50 FPS.

But in 4K UHD, 60 FPS can provideonly the GeForce RTX 4090 and Radeon RX 7900 XT, which are equipped with 24 GB of memory. But the GeForce RTX 4080 isn't far, averaging 58.3 FPS. Starting with the GeForce RTX 3070, graphics cards are not capable of 30 FPS.

A good filter is tracing technologyrays, after activation of which even the GeForce RTX 3090 cannot deliver the coveted 60 FPS in Full HD. When the resolution is increased to 4K UHD, the best indicator is 36.5 FPS in the assets of the same top model GeForce RTX 4090.
