BAE Systems Successfully Tests 70mm APKWS Laser-Guided Missiles with HEAT/APAM Warhead

BAE Systems has completed testing 70 mm missiles equipped with a laser guidance system and a new

warhead manufactured by General Dynamics.

What is known

70-mm missiles received an Advanced guidance systemPrecision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) paired with a High-Explosive Anti-Tank Anti-Personnel Anti-Materiel (HEAT/APAM) warhead. This combination can turn an unguided projectile into a precision-guided missile.

BAE Systems says that as part of the latestmissile tests were able to successfully hit armored vehicles from a long distance and a massive steel plate. The company notes that the laser guidance kit allows aircraft and helicopters to deliver "surgical strikes" from a distance of more than 3 km.

APKWS laser guidance systems are not only available to the US Army. BAE Systems will be able to supply guidance kits to allies of the United States.
