Baidu has created a computer that drives autonomous transport

Chinese company Baidu unveiled the Apollo computing unit, which they called "the world's first computer-ready

production” with an autonomous computer for transport; it can already be used in the car. The small device is capable of processing huge amounts of data - from five cameras and 12 ultrasonic radars.

It is made on Xilinx processors, and the Chinese scientists also used microcontrollers from the chip manufacturer Infineon.

The device will be used in Apollo ValetParking is a system that parks a car without the driver's participation. It will be launched in the second half of 2020, the researchers note that it is especially important during a pandemic, when drivers will not be able to use the services of special valets. If the experiment turns out to be successful, then the computing unit will be introduced into cars that drive on public roads.

Baidu is not the only company operatingover such blocks. NVIDIA has already signed contracts with GM, Toyota and others to build an even more powerful computing unit. However, Baidu will be the first company to begin testing its device in the real world with restrictions.
