Bats hunt and feed together. But only those who made friends in captivity

The daily search for fresh blood was not an easy undertaking for the vampire bats (Desmodus)

A new study has found that in search of food, animals "hunt" in groups, exchanging information in search of food. In any case, those individuals that met in captivity, they maintain "friendship" in  the wild, hunting together.

In the study, scientists examined the behavior of 50female vampires (27 wild, 23 previously lived in captivity). Attaching a tracking device to them, they sent the bats to a cattle pasture in Tole, Panama.

Tracking data showed that lonelythe bats were sent out to forage separately, not as a group. And those of the individuals who established social relations were reunited during the hunt, which, according to the researchers, was a kind of coordination of actions for obtaining food.
