At the British Society of Cardiovascular Diseases conference, scientists shared their experience
Patients with ischemic heart disease have a decreaselevels of nitric oxide, a naturally occurring substance produced by the body. Nitric oxide is essential for the regulation of blood pressure and has an anti-inflammatory effect.
For the experiment, scientists invited 114 people, parts of which were injected with a typhoid vaccine to cause a slight inflammation in the vessels. In other participants, a special cream was applied to the skin, which provoked local inflammation. All subjects drank beetroot juice, one half with a high content of nitrates, the other half without.
It turned out that participants who received a typhoid shot and drank beetroot juice with nitrates had elevated levels of nitric oxide in their blood, urine, and saliva; the other part had no such result.
Experts came to the conclusion that beetroot juice withhigh content of nitrates restores the endothelium - the inner layer of blood vessels. In addition, beetroot juice accelerated the healing of blisters on the skin. Experts noted that beetroot juice promotes rapid recovery and has an anti-inflammatory effect.
