Biden upholds ITC decision that could ban Apple Watch sales in the US

United States President Joe Biden did not reverse the decision of the International Trade Commission

(ITC), which could result in a ban on sales of Apple Watch smart watches in the United States. The reason is that Apple violated the patents of medical equipment manufacturer AliveCor.

What is known

Late last year, ITC acknowledged that the companyApple has violated AliveCor patents related to electrocardiogram technology in wearable gadgets. A spokesman for AliveCor welcomed the US President's decision to uphold the commission's ban.

ITC verdict suggests potential bansales of Apple smartwatches from Watch Series 4 to Watch Ultra (excluding two SE versions). However, there is a high chance that the Cupertino company's wearables will remain on the market.

Apple has already stated that the Patent Litigation Chamber(PTAB) has declared AliveCor's technology unpatentable. In this regard, the medical device manufacturer must prove its case to PTAB if it wants the ban on smartwatch sales to take effect.

The problems for Apple don't end there.Masimo also filed a lawsuit last month alleging patent infringement on heart rate and blood oxygen measurement technology. ITC may prohibit the import of smartwatches starting with Apple Watch Series 6 (excluding SE versions).
