Bill Gates' startup will create jet fuel from alcohol. $50 million allocated for production

Breakthrough Energy, founded by Bill Gates to support green energy transition projects,

announced funding for the construction of the LanzaJet Freedom Pines Fuels plant for the production of sustainable aviation fuel.

The Freedom Pines Fuels project will be the first in the worlda factory for the production of alcohol for jet engines. The company estimates that production will start as early as 2023, and switching to alcohol-based fuels will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 70% compared to fossil jet fuel.

Estimated production capacity of the plantis 34 million liters of sustainable aviation fuel and 3.75 million liters of renewable diesel fuel per year. That's nearly double the total amount of sustainable aviation fuel currently produced in the US.

If the project is successful, the company plans toexpand capacity and build additional capacity in North America, Europe and Asia. The ambitious goal of the project is to produce more than 3.75 billion liters of sustainable aviation fuel per year.
