Bipedal robot 'Cassie' sets Guinness world record for 100m dash

The bipedal robot "Cassie", developed at the College of Engineering at Oregon State University, showed

historical time of 24.73 s in the 100 m dash. He started from a standing position and returned to it after the sprint without ever falling in the process, the university press service reports.

Starting and stopping in a standing position is much more difficult than just running, the developers explain. This can be compared to flying an airplane: takeoff and landing are the most difficult parts of the route.

Record run "Cassie"

To prepare for Cassie's new distancecompleted a “one-year course” of training in a special simulation environment. At the same time, the learning process itself was compressed to a week. This was achieved through parallelization: several processes and calculations occur simultaneously, which allows Cassie to simultaneously go through a number of training activities.

This is not the robot's first record. In 2021, Cassie became the first bipedal robot using machine learning to control running to complete a 5km cross-country course. For the entire distance then it took him about 53 minutes.
