Blizzard has already felt the wrath of fans after the release of Warcraft 3: Reforged, which turned out to be filled with problems.
What is the problem
Even before the release of Reforged on the official forumBlizzard players have noticed changes to the user agreement rules. Apparently, the company has not forgotten the story of the Defense of the Ancients map, which gave birth to Dota 2 and League of Legends, and decided to take a proactive approach.
The new agreement states that custom maps made in Warcraft 3: Reforged become Blizzard's property.
“Custom games are and shouldremain the indivisible and exclusive property of Blizzard. Without limiting the foregoing, you hereby assign to Blizzard all of your full title and other rights and interests in and to all Custom Games, including, without limitation, all copyrights in the content of all Custom Games."
Moreover, the agreement states that Blizzard itselfcan carry out any manipulations with player content. For example, if the company likes the new mode created inside Reforged, then Blizzard can, without further ado, make a separate game out of it. However, Blizzard reserves the right to cover the development of a standalone version of the map by other players.
Gamers reacted to the new policy as expected.
“One of the most creative gaming communities is being destroyed by a new policy,” writes Megawatt.
“This is such a stupid way to do business. Not only are they openly limiting the creativity of map creators with their bans, but they are also trying to profit from other people's hard work,” Bephbin noted.
“I've been working on maps since the game came out. Well, they won’t anymore, LOL,” MrDesyncMan wrote.
