Esports revolution at BlizzCon 2019: the first female champion and the fall of the Koreans in Overwatch

BlizzCon 2019 was remembered not only for the announcements of Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2, but also for the revolution in the eSports scene.

A Chinese woman has become the new Hearthstone GrandmasterXiaomeng Li, who plays under the nickname VKLiooon. In the final, Xiaomeng beat the American Bloodyface, the Chinese Leaoh and the German Casie. The eSportswoman became the first girl to win at BlizzCon, for which we congratulate her.

In her victory speech, she urged other women to forget about gender and go towards their goals:

“I want to tell all the girls who dream of competing in eSports: if you strive for this and believe in yourself, you should forget about your gender and go towards your goal.”

The second significant event was the victory of Team USAOverwatch in the Overwatch World Cup 2019. The South Korean team, which dominated the last three years, took only third place in 2019, behind teams from the USA and China.

At the same time, the winner of WCS 2019 for StarCraft II was the South Korean player Dark.
