Bloomberg: iPhone will switch to USB-C soon, but not for long

EU authorities have finally approved new rules of the game in the electronics market, which involve

using a single charging standard for everyone. It will be USB-C, which almost everyone already uses. Thus, Apple remains a rare exception, which still uses its own Lightning standard. By law, the Cupertino-based company is required to start using USB-C in iPhones starting in 2025, but rumors suggest that “Apple” it will be implemented in the iPhone 15. Mark Gurman paid attention to this issue in his column in Bloomberg, where he called this transition a “temporary measure.”

The essence of the journalist’s thoughts is thatApple is approaching a “wireless future” where neither Lightning nor USB-C has a place. The author believes that Apple will come to wireless charging “out of the box” in the next few years, and will explain the transition to USB-C ahead of regulations as its own decision for good reasons (for example, to increase data transfer speeds and/or to come to a common charging standard for iPad, iPhone and Mac). If the forecast comes true, MagSafe will become the standard for charging the iPhone, and the package will only include a smartphone and documents. Is the future near?
