German technology group Bosch has planned to invest more than 400 million euros in
Microchip shortage for auto companiessignificantly impacted vehicle production around the world last year. Some suppliers rely almost exclusively on chips from just a few manufacturers in Asia and the US. As a result of this problem, manufacturers have been forced to reduce volumes or even stop production lines.
Much of Bosch's budget will be spent on the rapid expansion of its plant in Dresden, Germany, where 300mm plates are manufactured. This plant opened in June.
About 50 million euros will be invested ina facility in Reutlingen near Stuttgart for the production of 200mm substrates, the company said. Another project to be funded is the construction of a semiconductor testing center in Penang, Malaysia, the firm added, without specifying the amount of investment.
Bosch is also known as a manufacturer of electronics and electrical components for vehicles, including automation systems and advanced driver assistance software.
