Brazilian regulator validates deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard

The merger review process between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard is ongoing.

Not All Regulatory Commissions Yet

We have confirmed the eligibility of the transaction, but the process is moving forward.

Thus, it became known that the administrative councilBrazilian Economic Defense Commission (CADE) issued a positive verdict and agreed to the purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft Corporation without imposing any restrictions.

The Brazilian Commission did not see negative consequences for healthy competition in the gaming industry, but noted that

...some PlayStation users may switch to Xbox in the event that Activision Blizzard games — especially Call of Duty — becomeexclusives of Microsoft's platforms, but does not believe that this opportunity representsA risk to competition in the console market as a whole.

For those who are not in the know

Previously, the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard was approved by Saudi Arabia, and in November, the European Antitrust Commission and the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will announce their decision.

Recall that the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard is the largest in the history of the gaming industry, its value is 68.7 billion dollars.

If all regulators confirm the legality and transparency of the transaction, it will be formalized by the end of June 2023.
