What is known

United Kingdom Minister of Defense BenWallace said the agency now has "more than 20" fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighter jets worth £100m. To be more precise, the UK has already purchased 27 aircraft, but one has been decommissioned after an aircraft carrier accident, and more three are in the US.

In total, Britain planned to acquire 138 fighters. But right now, the ministry can't even operate the existing fleet of F-35 Lightning IIs, which consists of 23 American aircraft.

The main reason was the delay in learningpilots. The training is influenced by the novelty of the fifth generation fighters. The problem could not be solved, despite the fact that three years ago flight training became one of the main priorities of the Royal Air Force of the Kingdom.

Due to constant delays, the training of specialists can take eight years. At the same time, the normal training period for pilots on the F-35 Lightning II is 2-3 years (5 in the worst case).
