Build in a Week: ICON Sells 3D Printed Homes

Austin-based construction company ICON has begun selling homes in the East 17th Street Residence complex, partially

printed on a 3D printer. One such building costs from $450,000 (the average price of a house in Austin).

What is known

It is immediately worth noting that in every residential buildingOf the complex, only the first floor is printed, and the rest are built in the traditional way. The buildings will be ready for occupancy in the summer. Each home, ranging in size from 93 to 185 square meters, took five to seven days to print. For construction, the company used its own cement, Lavacrete, which, according to ICON representatives, is stronger than classic building materials.

At the moment, ICON has printed about 20homes in the US and Mexico, 7 of which were built for the homeless in Community First Village! Village back in 2019. The company decided not to limit itself to buildings on Earth and is now collaborating with NASA: in the future they are planning construction on the Moon and Mars.
