But they promised without them: FPS Squard received a paid add-on

It seems that no one can resist the temptation of additional monetization – even games that were promised

don't do this.Recently, the first-person shooter Squard, much to the surprise of its longtime players, received a paid add-on. It all started small: along with one package of free emotions, there are two packages with paid ones.

“Emotions – this is the animation youcan be used to express yourself, interact with each other, celebrate gaming situations, or simply decorate your time in the game. We hope they will enhance the social and cinematic aspects of your Squard experience,” Offworld Industries said in the announcement.

The developers say that the first batch of emotes is the beginning of a new form of support for the game, but for some players, crossing the threshold through microtransactions was a real betrayal.

The developers explained the changes in plans by saying that the game needs additional sources of income to stay afloat:

“We understand that paid content in gamesmay be controversial, and that previous Offworld management stated that paid DLC for the game would never happen. With this in mind, we have decided to inform you of this change prior to the early release of version 4”.
