Scientists have found 19 professional football players fromBrazil. During the experiments, the participants first rested, and then took 500 ml of either powdered juice with caffeine or powdered juice without it. Athletes were asked to refrain from exercise and follow a specific diet (including abstaining from caffeine) for 24 hours prior to the experimental sessions. An hour after taking caffeine or a placebo, the participants warmed up, and then the scientists measured their tactical abilities.

It turned out that the players who took caffeine, there were fewer errors in defense than those who took placebo. In addition, players who took caffeine showed higher levels of ball possession. Overall, the results suggest that coffee consumption may be more beneficial for attackers than defenders.
