Canada has already acquired a NASAMS system for Ukraine

On January 10, we wrote that Canada promised to buy one battery from the United States and transfer it to Ukraine

NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems. Only a week and a half has passed and the NASAMS system has already been purchased.

What to expect

This was stated by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin following the eighth meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine Defense Issues at the American Ramstein military base in Germany.

“Canada acquired the NASAMS system and associated equipment for Ukraine,” he said.

Austin also recalled that several countries have alreadyoffered to help strengthen Ukraine's air defenses, mentioning France, Britain and Germany - the latter offering to donate a Patriot battery.

By the way, NASAMS air defense systems are already operating in Ukraine; they were transferred to the United States in early November. In total, America must transfer 8 such systems.

NASAMS is a Norwegian mobileanti-aircraft missile system, which is designed to combat maneuvering aerodynamic targets at low and medium altitudes, namely UAVs, ballistic missiles, helicopters, airplanes, cruise missiles and other targets.
