Cancellation of daylight saving time turned out to be hazardous to health

It turns out that refusing to change clocks to daylight saving time can have a negative impact on human health.

A specialist from the University of Seville studied this issue in more detail. Discuss

José Maria Martin-Olalla, scientist from SevilleUniversity (Spain), in the course of the study, found out what consequences the transition to or abandonment of summer time has for residents of Great Britain and Germany. The results were published in Chronobiology International.

The researcher analyzed the circadian rhythms of sleepand the wakefulness of the British and Germans. It is known that Germany and Great Britain are on the same latitude, and their citizens have a similar standard of living. At the same time, in England, the transition to daylight saving time is still taking place (1918), and in Germany it was canceled (for the period from 1945 to 1980).

Today in Germany the day starts at about30 minutes earlier than England. At the same time, people start working in the UK at sunrise. If we talk about the findings of the study, it turned out that the refusal to switch to summer time contributes to the increased activity of people in the early morning in winter, which is harmful from a physiological point of view. This can lead, for example, to an exacerbation of chronic diseases. But the danger of canceling daylight saving time remains to be studied in more detail.
