CD Projekt: Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer will be released no earlier than 2022 and will be a separate game

CD Projekt admitted last year that it was working on Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer, but now it has become known that

it won't come out soon.

What is known

During a conference call with investors, board member and senior vice president for business development Michal Nowakowski said that the project will not be released even in 2021.

“Given the expected release of Cyberpunk 2077in September and, speaking of the series of events that we expect after release, 2021 seems to be an unlikely release date for Cyberpunk multiplayer,” said Nowakowski.

The vice president also said thatThe multiplayer component is that unknown AAA project that the studio is developing in parallel with Cyberpunk 2077. It seems that gamers will receive not just an additional mode, but a separate project.

Regarding the postponement of the release of Cyberpunk 2077,then CD Projekt had been planning to take extra time for a long time. The developers calculated that they needed another five months to bring the project to release state. Novakovsky said that the game is almost ready, and the team will not change the core mechanics, but there are still things in the project “that need to be taken care of.” In addition, this way the team will be able to partially avoid “crunch”, the so-called overtime.

“We try to limit crunch as much as possible, but this is the last stage. We try to think sensibly about it, but yeah. Unfortunately”, – responded CEO Adam Kiciński.
