CDC: Even young people with mild COVID-19 need weeks to recover

A telephone survey of adults with mild COVID-19 in 13 states found that 35% of those surveyed had not returned to

to their normal state of health even aftertwo to three weeks after testing. Coronavirus symptoms persisted weeks after recovery. The CDC reported this in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

According to the report, symptoms noted on testing included coughing, fatigue and shortness of breath, which persisted even weeks later.

The data obtained indicate thatrecovery can be prolonged even in young people without chronic diseases. This demonstrates the need to educate target populations who may not perceive COVID-19 as a serious illness.

From April 15 to June 25, telephone interviews were conducted with a random sample of people over 18 who were tested for COVID-19 during an outpatient visit, the CDC said.

Interviews were conducted 14-21 days after the dateand patients were asked about their symptoms during testing, whether they had returned to their normal state of health, and whether they were suffering from a chronic illness.
