Until recently, China's largest chip maker, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), could produce
For the production of advanced microcircuits, special equipment, and it was this that the United States banned from supplying SMIC. The Chinese recently claimed that they were able to produce similar 7nm chips without this equipment. Now, TechInsights has revealed that SMIC has indeed used a 7nm process to build a Bitcoin mining SoC. The specialists reverse-engineered the Chinese chip and saw that it was a close copy of TSMC's 7nm technology.
This is not surprising since TSMChas sued SMIC twice for copying its technology. But no matter how SMIC managed to do it, now the Chinese can produce 7nm chips, and this worries Western experts.
