China has created a hypersonic wind tunnel that can accelerate the air flow to 41,000 km / h

Chinese scientists together with Australian specialists have created a wind tunnel that will allow

conduct tests of supersonic aircraft.

What is known

Wind tunnels come to the rescue inaircraft testing, when computer simulation is not able to reproduce the flow in detail under all conditions. The new tube was built in Sichuan province with the participation of the China Center for the Development and Research of Aerodynamics.

It allows you to test aircraftdevices, accelerating the air flow to 41,000 km/h (more than Mach 33). The diameter of the pipe is 80 cm, i.e. it is suitable for testing small devices. For example, capsules of a lunar spacecraft.

Chinese experts say that this is the mostthe world's largest free-piston wind tunnel. But the cost of development and construction is not specified. In addition, there is no information on whether the pipe was affected by the magnitude 6.8 earthquake that hit Sichuan province earlier this week.
