Before the neural interface operator is seta graphical screen that displays commands for performing various actions or, in the case of wireless communication, letters. When the operator concentrates on one of the commands, the signal from the brain is read by the neural interface.
As a prototype demonstration, the researchersshowed the wireless transmission of text from one operator to another in a communication system based on a metasurface. When the target letter is decoded from the EEG signal, an ASCII-based encoding sequence is performed on the metasurface to switch time-varying modes, manipulating the metasurface to send information out into space. The second operator system receives, demodulates the signal and presents the result on a graphical display.

It is noted that during the work of an experienced operatorneural interface, the average input time for each character is about 5 s. The developers say that it can be improved using fast typing algorithms.
“The presented work, unitingelectromagnetic wave space and neural interface, may open a new direction for studying the deep integration of the metasurface, the intelligence of the human brain and artificial intelligence to create new generations of biointelligent metasurface systems,” the researchers note.
