China plans to launch the world's first Hyperloop vacuum train

The Chinese Academy of Engineering and the country's railway authorities have selected routes to launch the first

superhigh-speed demonstration linemaglev trains. To implement the Chinese version of Hyperloop, a line was chosen between two large industrial cities in the southeast of the country: Guangzhou and Shanghai.

According to the South China Morning Post, the train willmove along a route 175 km long and reach a maximum speed of up to 1,000 km/h. Currently, travel on this route takes three hours by conventional rail and an hour by high-speed train. Running Hyperloop will reduce travel time to about 15 minutes.

The Shanghai-Guangzhou line was chosen as a resultanalysis of many factors. The relatively flat terrain and the high economic potential of the route, associated with the high population density in the region and economic activity in these cities, have become key. To launch trains, a lot of work will need to be done to create the necessary infrastructure. Trains are expected to start operating in 2035.

Magnetic levitation (maglev) trains operate inmany parts of the world. In 2012, Elon Musk proposed launching them in vacuum tunnels to increase their speed to 1220 km/h, and called this technology Hyperloop. This project was not brought to commercial implementation. Virgin Hyperloop continued to develop Musk's idea, but said it would focus only on cargo transportation.

Last year, in China, for the first time, they tested the worksuch a system. The installation runs trains in a low vacuum inside the tube. During the test on a test track 2 km long, the maglev train moved at speeds up to 130 km/h. If the new project to build a branch line between Guangzhou and Shanghai is successfully completed, China could become the first country to use Hyperloop technology.
