China plans to overtake NASA and deliver soil from Mars to Earth two years earlier

The delivery time for soil from Mars to Earth is two years faster than that of the NASA mission.

Chinese mission plans

The Chinese project is called Tianwen-3.It is planned that in September 2029 a lander will land on the surface of Mars - it will take soil samples from the surface and from the depths at the landing site.

According to information from representatives of the mission,The lifting apparatus will consist of two stages. Both are developed on a solid-propellant or liquid engine. They will have to reach speeds of up to 4.5 km / s.

There will also be a rocket on the planet along with the module:it will return the soil to the orbit of Mars, where the Chinese interplanetary orbital station will already be located. The latter will deliver samples to Earth in July 2031.

In March 2022, NASA announced plans to postponethe next phase of its Mars sample return campaign and split the lander mission into two separate spacecraft to reduce the overall risk of the program.

The ESA orbiter is due to launch in 2027, with samples scheduled to be returned to Earth in 2033, according to a revised schedule.
