China says they will have fusion power in 6 years

A new Chinese reactor will simulate the detonation of a thermonuclear bomb, producing powerful electrical

impulses. These pulses create enough pressure to fuse the atoms together, a process that releases energy.

"To be the first in the world to carry out nuclearfusion on an energy production scale marks the beginning of the most important milestone in people's journey to fusion energy,” said Peng Xianjue, a professor at the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics and the country's leading nuclear scientist. 

But the reactor will not be the first of its kind,In any case, the history of technology suggests that the hype around this new Chinese project is too high. In fact, as reported by SCMP, all the previous "Z-pinch" reactors that have been built around the world so far have failed to generate more power than they need to produce these pulses.

Ironically, the plan is for the fusion reactor to power a more conventional nuclear fission plant, a stepping stone for the future adoption of commercial fusion power technologies.

Once completed in 2025, the plant will start producing fusion energy by 2028, with the technology ready for commercial deployment by 2035, Peng said.

To date, only a few countries have proposed a nuclear fusion schedule close to this, but China is certainly heavily investing in the technology.

In early 2022, China said it had beaten itsown record when his "artificial Sun" reactor maintained a temperature 10 times the temperature of the Sun for more than 17 consecutive minutes.

The record, however, was set quite differently.a type of fusion reactor that draws on more traditional approaches to fusion energy by heating the plasma inside a donut-shaped reactor called a tokamak to extreme temperatures and pressures.

It's hard to say what to do with this last onestatement, especially given China's secrecy regarding its scientific institutions. However, if China is as close to nuclear fusion as it claims, the technology could lead to a major paradigm shift as the world continues to suffer from energy shortages and the effects of climate change. But given the seemingly insurmountable challenges involved in making fusion energy a reality , the expert community has doubts.

An old pipe dream that was rathera subject of science fiction rather than real science, the prospect of the pure energy of nuclear fusion, generated by the power of the fusion of atomic nuclei, has tormented scientists for almost a century. Over the past few years, researchers and a growing number of startups have been claiming that the world is getting closer to nuclear fusion, but the reality is much less impressive, as expensive reactors still require much more energy to run than they can produce.
