China continues to develop an engine for aircraft that will be able to move on
What is known
Specialists used coal powder and vaporsethylene to start a series of detonations. Scientists have empirically found that the speed of the shock wave in such an engine is about six times the speed of sound and is 2000 m / s.
The tests were conducted at Nanjing University of Scienceand technologies. Specialists performed tests in a wide temperature range with a lack of oxygen and in conditions of its excess. Successful completion of the tests means that the coal-powder and ethylene detonation hypersonic engine can be used in vehicles to fly at different heights and speeds.
It is assumed that a hypersonic aircraft will be able totake off and land in normal airfield conditions at low speed. In the case of other types of hypersonic engines, this task is practically unrealizable.
