China wants to build the world's first fusion-ignited nuclear reactor

The world's first fusion ignition nuclear reactor may appear in the Chinese province of Sichuan.

What is known

Construction of an impulse hybridfusion-nuclear power plant will start in 2025. Apparently, China plans to complete all the work in a short time, since the launch of the reactor is scheduled for 2028.

The installation is called Z-FFR.It will be able to create a current of 50 million A, which should be enough for thermonuclear fusion. In this case, the released energy will not be removed. Instead, it will be redirected to start the fission reaction in the fuel. After that, energy in the form of heat will be supplied to the turbines, as is the case in traditional nuclear reactors.

Despite the fact that Chinese scientists already callfuture hybrid installation with the world's first nuclear reactor with thermonuclear ignition, specialists will have to solve a number of issues for the implementation of the planned project. In particular, to create conductors that can withstand extreme current, and laser switches to quickly change the channels of energy supply.
