Chinese AI predicts the course of hypersonic missiles. The retaliatory strike will be ahead

Researchers at the Air Force Early Warning Academy in China said they have developed technology based on

artificial intelligence. It predicts the course of hypersonic missiles even as they approach their target at five times the speed of sound. This was reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

A hypersonic missile can fly at speedsmuch faster than the speed of sound, and remain out of sight of air defense systems for an extended period of time. Russia, the USA and North Korea are already testing models of these weapons. More countries are expected to join in, and China is racing to develop countermeasures.

Now scientists have developed a unique algorithmdeep learning, which removes noise from the signal and works like the human brain to focus on the latest and most important data. The result is a sophisticated artificial intelligence program that predicts the trajectory of hypersonic missiles. It is noteworthy that only the computing power of a laptop is enough for it to work.

According to the researchers, the systemAI-powered air defense can assess the potential trajectory of an incoming weapon and initiate a retaliatory strike with a three-minute advance.

"The world's armed forces are participating infierce arms race, which creates new and serious challenges for air and space security,” said Zhang Junbiao, a computer scientist from the Air Force Early Warning Department of the Wuhan Early Warning Academy.

“Trajectory forecasting has a big impactimplications for combating intent assessment and interception of aerospace defense assets,” the scientists wrote in a paper published April 30 in the Journal of Astronautics, a peer-reviewed publication of the Chinese Society of Astronautics.
