The shortage of semiconductor components has affectedfrom more than one automaker around the world. The shortage is being driven by a combination of factors, including increased demand for consumer electronics last year, a fire at a major auto chip plant and drought in Taiwan.
This has led automakers to compete with a number of other consumer electronics industries for the supply of affordable chips.
“We have decided to stop productionin Ghent in the 25th week as a result of a shortage of microchips”, – Volvo Cars said in a statement. “This is a proactive decision to stabilize the situation, and we plan to resume production on Monday, June 28”.
The company clarifies that all other factoriesaround the world are currently working. However, back in March, Volvo Cars said it had suspended or adjusted production in China and the US for certain periods of the month.
