Clouds from the Fermi bubbles of our galaxy turned out to be alien

Scientists have discovered that the metal content of high-velocity Fermi bubble clouds (HVCS FB) does not match

indicators of the galactic center of the Milky Way. Based on these data, astrophysicists suggested that at least some of the material was entering the clouds from somewhere else.

In the article, scientists noted that there is notmany studies on the composition of HVCS FB. However, many assume that the clouds are composed of material ejected from stellar disks near the Fermi bubbles, or material from a black hole at the center of the galaxy. In the new work, the researchers took a closer look at HVCS FBs to learn more about their composition.

The main goal of the researchers' work wasdetermination of the ratio of metals in clouds. If these rates were consistent with other materials nearby, it would support theories of the localized origin of HVCS FB.

However, analyzing both new and archivaldata from several telescopes, the researchers found that in many cases there were no matches. This means that at least some of the material in the clouds must have come from more distant places. Perhaps even from a halo - a cloud of gases that surrounds the galaxy.

Fermi bubbles spanning 25,000 lightyears each, are on both sides of the plane of the galaxy and emit x-rays and gamma rays. The reason for their occurrence could be relativistic jets from a supermassive black hole, which was active 5-6 million years ago. In another scenario, a burst of star formation in a cloud of molecular gas around a black hole could trigger Type II supernova explosions and generate powerful stellar winds.
