Cosmic stem cells are used to make medicines for mass use

This experiment is the latest research project in which stem cells

will be launched into space. During such research, some scientists strive to produce more stem cells, while others study how space travel affects the body's cells.

According to Dr. Joseph Wu of Stanford University, six previous projects from the US, China and Italy have yielded different types of stem cells.

At the moment, the only products based onFDA-approved stem cells contain stem cells from the umbilical cord. They are used for patients with blood diseases.

According to Jeffrey Millman, an expert onin biomedical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, there are currently no approved treatments using stem cells that are sent into space.

However, clinical trials are carried out in zero gravity.stem cell trials that target diseases such as macular degeneration, Parkinson's disease and heart attack injuries. And Millman is involved in research that is exploring a new approach to treating type 1 diabetes.

Also, for example, the Cedars-Sinai team sentinduced pluripotent stem cells on the ISS. For the latest experiment, which is funded by NASA, containers contain bags filled with spheres of cells. It also contains the solutions needed to keep them alive for four weeks.

They will do the same experiment with a box of cells on Earth to compare the results. The goal of the work is to understand how the development of stem cells changes in weightlessness and on Earth.
