Cracks were found on the Russian MSC module. Over time they will creep away

General designer of the Energia Rocket and Space Corporation Vladimir Solovyov said that

Non-through cracks were found on the oldest module of the ISS, Zarya.

In his opinion, the cracks will begin to spread over time and this is not a point problem: all systems of the Russian segment of the ISS are now at a high level of wear.

In words, everyone convinces that nothing will break, but they do not put signatures on the document. At the end of July, a meeting of the Presidium of the Scientific and Technical Council of Roscosmos took place, where it was noted that the station was on its last legs.

Earlier in 2020, cracks were found in the Zvezda module. Later they were repaired, but the oxygen leak did not stop, although it decreased.

Soloviev added that now 80% systemsThe Zvezda module has exceeded its warranty period. At the meeting of the Council of Chief Designers, no one gave a guarantee that the station’s equipment would not fail after 2025.

The ISS Russian Segment now includes five modules: Zarya, Zvezda, Poisk, Rassvet and Nauka.
