An unusual laser that writes through the air was created by researchers from the Hongtuo Joint Laboratory in
In the process of “writing”, high-intensityLaser pulses are focused into air to create plasma, or ionized gas, which emits energy in the form of light. The scientists did not specify how exactly they used the 3D scanner to precisely position pixel points and form images in the air.
The name of the laboratory is in the air. Photo: Handout
The duration of short pulses isjust a femtosecond, or one millionth of a billionth of a second, or one quadrillionth of a second. According to the researchers, the device and the airwriting method itself could potentially be used in a variety of industries, from quantum computing to brain imaging.
