Data has learned to transfer at the speed of light: this is 100 times faster than usual

IT specialist Bruce Maggs several years ago, together with his colleagues, decided to create the Internet, which

will work at the speed of light. The authors wondered: if you transfer data faster, will it be possible to do it smoothly and even instantly?

Now the researchers have unveiled a blueprint for a network across the US that will be 10 to 100 times faster than the regular internet.

If it is deployed in 120 major US cities, then 85% of Americans will be able to transmit data over long distances in almost real time, as if they were in the same room.

The problem is that the modern Internet is notoptimized for speed, Maggs said. Considering the speed of light, theoretically data should be transmitted at a speed of 300,000 km/sec. At this rate, Internet traffic can travel 4,500 kilometers between Los Angeles and New York in 15 milliseconds.

In tests, the researchers found thatMicrowave networks of financial traders transmitted data more reliably than a typical fiber optic network, even in bad weather, when rain can weaken the signal between the towers. The technology has been around for decades, the team notes.

The team's research showed that the towers,equipped with antennas that send microwave signals back and forth can be built in major cities in the US or Europe. As a result, it will be possible to achieve the required speed.
