Defamatory information in Russia will be removed without a court decision

According to the document, upon application of a citizen, a decision will be made within 15 days to remove him from

Internet of false or defamatory information. Otherwise, the page will be blocked by Roskomnadzor.

The victim must write a statement andconfirm with documents that the published information “discredits his honor and dignity or undermines his reputation and is associated with an accusation of committing a crime.”

It will also be necessary to attach to such an application documents confirming the unreliability of the information posted. Prosecutors will study each case.

In case of confirmation of the information provided, the Prosecutor General or his deputies apply to Roskomnadzor with a request to remove inaccurate information.

The bill was developed by the first deputyDuma Committee on Information Policy Sergei Boyarsky, Head of the State Duma Committee on Nationalities Valery Gazzaev and member of the Committee on Control and Regulation of the Lower House of Parliament Andrei Alshevskikh.
