Denmark may buy 20 Leopard 1A5 tanks for Ukraine

The Danish authorities are considering the possibility of sending Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine. But for this they will have to be purchased from

German company FFG.

What is known

FFG purchased 100 tanks from Denmark in 2010.The German company intended to repair decommissioned combat vehicles for the purpose of subsequent resale. Now it has become known that Denmark can buy back two dozen Leopard 1A5 tanks and transfer them to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Leopard 1 entered service in 1965.This is an outdated combat vehicle that does not have durable armor. It received a 105 mm L7 cannon, and after upgrading to the A5 level, armor-piercing shells and a new fire control system appeared.

Leopard 1A5 may enter service with the forcesterritorial defense or be used as a support vehicle for more modern tanks, including the Leopard 2, Challenger 2 and Abrams. If Denmark buys the Leopard 1 from FFG, it could take three months for the combat vehicles to be sent to Ukraine.
