Despite the limitations, Windows 11 will work on computers with older processors. But there is a "but"

Even after the official announcement of Windows 11, Microsoft named the requirements for computers and laptops for

installing a new operating system. But now some adjustments have been made to this list.

The list has expanded

Initially, the system requirements included onlyIntel processors are no older than the eighth generation, AMD Ryzen are no older than the second generation, as well as several Qualcomm chips. But now there is an addition to this list.

So, Microsoft added several chips to the listSeventh generation Intel, including the seventh generation Core X and Xeon W, as well as the Intel Core i7-7820HQ, which will extend support for Microsoft Surface Studio 2. But the first generation Ryzen processors seem to have not passed the compatibility test.

"After careful analysis of the first generationAMD Zen processors, in partnership with AMD, we jointly came to the conclusion that they will not be included in the list of supported processors,” says the Microsoft team blog. As it turned out, devices that did not meet minimum hardware requirements “had 52% more failures.”

Windows 11 for everyone

But most importantly, Microsoft said thatwill not prohibit users from installing Windows 11 on computers with old hardware. No, the hardware requirements remain, but the OS installation limitation will only apply when attempting to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 via Windows Update.

If your equipment does not complyrequirements, you will have to download the Windows 11 ISO file and install the OS manually. But the company cannot guarantee driver compatibility and overall system reliability. Therefore, Microsoft will not recommend or advertise this method of installing Windows 11 to consumers.
