Designed “smart” backpack for visually impaired people

Developers of solutions based on artificial intelligence, led by Jagadish K. Mahendran, presented a “smart” backpack for visually impaired people.

The backpack has voice control, thanks to which people with vision problems can better navigate in space. So, while moving, the system is able to warn the user with sound that there is an obstacle ahead. Among other things, the backpack notifies you of the presence of road signs, as well as the fact that there is a pedestrian crossing, curbs, stairs, entrances and other pedestrians ahead.

The technology itself is integrated inside a smalla backpack containing a computing module. A camera is also provided, which is placed in a jacket-vest, while a compact battery, designed for eight hours of battery life, is hidden in a lumbar bag. At the same time, the AI-based spatial camera is connected to a vest or lumbar bag, and then to a computing module in a backpack.
