DJI to build the first drone assembly plant in Eastern Europe near Uzhgorod

DJI, a global leader in drone and aerial imaging technology,

begins construction of a production plantof their UAVs in Ukraine. The company's press service reported this on Facebook. The British architectural bureau Foster + Partners, which designed the famous DJI headquarters building in Shenzhen, was hired to build the plant. Preparatory construction work at the facility, the total area of ​​which will be about 200 thousand square meters. m, began in November last year. The facility itself is located in the suburbs of Uzhgorod, on the territory of the village of Tarnovtsy, a few kilometers from the state border of Ukraine. Construction of the plant will cost, according to preliminary estimates, about $75 million.

“The choice of Ukraine is due to its favorable geographicallocation, low wages compared to Shenzhen, and economic reforms of the government, which has set a course for digitalization of the country and a maximum favorable investment regime,” says Frank Wang Tao, founder and permanent director of SZ DJI Technology Co., Ltd . “We plan to sell drones both in Ukraine, where there is a stable demand for professional unmanned aerial vehicle systems for agriculture, and in the countries of Eastern and then Western Europe. Thanks to the agreements between the governments of Ukraine and China, we will be able to avoid double taxation, which will allow us to increase production efficiency and significantly reduce logistics costs for delivering our products to Europe.”

First of all, the plant will focus onfor the assembly (production of components will still remain in China) of agricultural drones, in particular the DJI Agras T20 model (pictured below), which has the best price-to-capability ratio on the world market. It is equipped with 8 nozzles, 20 liter tanks and large volume pumps that allow you to spray fertilizer at a rate of up to 6 liters per minute.

The plant is expected to be operational inIn 2022 and in the second half of 2023, it will reach production capacity for assembling 40 thousand drones per month. The construction of the plant will provide additional 1,200 jobs for residents of the Transcarpathian region.
