Do you sleep badly at night? The reason may be in mental disorders!

Anxiety, autism, schizophrenia and Tourette's syndrome have their own distinct characteristics, but one factor

uniting these and most othersmental disorders, – it's a circadian rhythm disorder, according to a team of neuroscience, pharmaceutical and computer science researchers at the University of California, Irvine. Discuss

Lead author Amal Alachkar, neuroscientist andprofessor in the UCI Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, noted the difficulty of testing the group's hypothesis at the molecular level, but said the researchers found sufficient evidence for the link by carefully reviewing the peer-reviewed literature on the most common mental disorders.

"Sign of circadian rhythm disorder– sleep problems – was present in every disorder,” – Alachkar said.

Circadian rhythms regulate physiologicalactivity and biological processes of our body during each sunny day. Synchronized with the 24-hour light/dark cycle, circadian rhythms influence when we should normally sleep and when we should be awake. They also control other functions, such as the production and release of hormones, maintaining body temperature, and fixing memories.

Efficient, smooth operation of this natural timing system is essential
