Drones helped create a quantum network

Scientists have used drones to transmit entangled particles of light, or photons, within a quantum network. Photons

went to a distance of up to a kilometer.

Science News talks about this briefly.Entangled particles can retain their interconnected properties even when separated over long distances. This can be used to create new types of communication. The ambitious goal of scientists is to create a global quantum internet.

In the new study, researchers used twodrone to transmit photons. A generator, essentially a laser, on one drone created pairs of entangled particles, sending one group of particles to a station on the ground and a second to another drone. This device transmitted the resulting particle to a second station a kilometer from the first.

In the future, drones could work in swarms to send entangled particles to recipients in different locations.
