Researchers found that more than 2,200 suchstations were built on the territory of the remaining wild nature on Earth. Overall, about 17% of all renewable energy sources are located in protected areas. There are currently plans to install another 900 stations in special areas.
Another problem of environmental energy sources is that they require much more area than, for example, for a thermal power plant.
“Energy facilities and the infrastructure around them, including roads, can cause incredible damage to the natural environment,” the scientists noted.
The main violators in the construction of alternative energy sources are Western European countries, in particular Germany.
