Elbit Systems Announces $72M Contract for Hermes 900 Drones

The Israeli company announced on November 14 that it had signed a contract for the production and supply of unmanned aerial vehicles.

What is known

The deal was valued at $72 million.The contract, in addition to Hermes unmanned aerial systems, also includes the supply of training aids. Elbit Systems notes that the agreement was signed with an unnamed foreign customer and will be implemented within five years.

The contract involves the supply of unmannedHermes 900 aircraft with SkEye Wide Area Persistent Surveillance, Spectro XR multispectral electron-optical payload and satellite communications. Yoram Shmuely, CEO of Elbit Systems Aerospace, said the deal is another vote of confidence in the Hermes family of drones.

In December 2009, the Hermes 900 made its firstflight, and two years later entered service. The drone has a wingspan of 15 meters, a mass of almost 1000 kg and can carry a payload of up to 300 kg. The maximum flight altitude is 9.1 km, and the duration is more than 30 hours.
