Elon Musk told why the Tesla Cybertruck pickup looks so weird

A few days ago, Tesla introduced the futuristic Tesla Cybertruck pickup truck, which has an unusual design

has already become a reason for jokes and memes. Now Tesla CEO Elon Musk has explained why the electric car looks the way it does.

Why?

At the presentation, Elon said that when creating the Tesla Cybertruck, the designers were inspired by the films “Blade Runner” and “The Spy Who Loved Me.” Now Musk has admitted that it’s all about the materials.

The fact is that the case is made of super-hardcold-rolled stainless steel (30X), which is many times stronger than other alloys used to make cars. However, such steel cannot be stamped - it will simply break the stamping press. The developers couldn’t give the pickup the usual shape, so they took one 3mm thick sheet and bent it in several places.

Despite the huge number of memes, the pickup truck is definitely popular. Tesla has already collected more than 200 thousand pre-orders for the Tesla Cybertruck, and this in just three days.

Let us remind you that to place a pre-order you needpay $100, then this money can be returned. Cybertruck production will begin in 2021, and the top version with higher mileage and speed will be released in 2022.
